Mr. Blonde, as seen in the XBLA version

We believe in which anything that does not work correctly should be destroyed.

Mr. Blonde is an undercover Skedar Warrior working with dataDyne and its associates: Cassandra De Vries and Trent Easton. He is the main antagonist of Perfect Dark.

Affiliations with dataDyne[]

Mr. Blonde is a high-ranking Skedar Warrior appointed to be their point-of-contact between his race and the dataDyne Corporation, often within a volatile relationship between the two key conspirators, the head of dataDyne Cassandra De Vries and NSA director Trent Easton. He is often overseeing the Skedar's advanced alien technology exchange in return for the A.I. Dr. Caroll, and the deep-sea craft Pelagic II. Therefore, Mr. Blonde is the mastermind behind most of the criminal activities seen throughout Perfect Dark's storyline. His ultimate goal, as with the rest of the Skedar, is to acquire the superweapon found in the Cetan Ship hidden deep within the Pacific Ocean to destroy the Maian race, to end their longtime war between them, before testing it on Earth (secretly betraying dataDyne).

Mr. Blonde views the dataDyne Corporation altogether as expendable and does not show tolerance for when things go wrong, going by the quote that "We believe that anything that does not work correctly should be destroyed."; In the ending cutscene of Crash Site, he himself kills Trent Easton for his failures after Joanna Dark rescues the U.S. President twice. He also soon abducts Cassandra for her "crimes against the Skedar" (and failures), and is responsible for eventual destruction of the Lucerne Tower in his own mid-story mission, Mr. Blonde's Revenge. Despite being a villain, however, as seen in his mission, Mr. Blonde's capture of dataDyne's CEO and ultimately destroying its headquarters with a high-tech bomb can be considered heroic.

It is unknown to what happened to Mr. Blonde after the bombardment of his home planet as seen in the end of Perfect Dark, but it can be safely assumed to have died in the defense of his superior, in the hands of the Maians somewhere, or could possibly be the only Skedar to escape death.

Appearance[]

On the outside, Mr. Blonde appears to be a young, tall human male in his late 20s with striking blond hair - hence the name. He is actually a Skedar Warrior using an advanced holographic projector and a voice modulator, as a disguise.

Using this technology, Skedar Warriors can commune with dataDyne on Earth without looking too overly suspicious.

During Gameplay[]

Several other Mr. Blondes are fought during the missions Air Force One: Antiterrorism, Crash Site: Confrontation, Deep Sea: Nullify Threat and Carrington Institute: Defense. They usually wield Maulers, but can carry K7 Avengers or Sniper Rifles. They are agile and very aggressive, as they run faster than most guards due to their tall height and have quick reaction speed upon firing their weapons.

Strangely, these Mr. Blondes act entirely like normal dataDyne guards, and do not have the main character counterpart's sinister deep Scandinavian accent. They also do not morph into their actual Skedar Warrior forms in the missions they appear in during gameplay.

He is also a playable character in the game's Combat Simulator mode. When you play as the Counter-Operative in missions that contain only Skedar Warrior enemies (such as Attack Ship), the playable Skedar will instead morph into a Mr. Blonde carrying over any weapons on them, though this makes the opponent player much easier to distinguish from other enemies.

The Hit and Run Co-Op Buddy is very similar to a Mr. Blonde, as he has the body of such, but instead has the head of Grimshaw, and shares the K7 Avenger. There is a rare glitch, however, that after he attacks an enemy and then takes cover, he may stop and aim his weapon at Joanna, but won't fire. This is due to the fact Hit and Run uses the AI of Mr. Blonde guards.

In the Mr. Blonde's Revenge bonus mission, any of the selected Perfect Buddies will be a Mr. Blonde instead of their character models, including Hit and Run. However, they will still have their respective weapons in their hands. Selecting Hit and Run as the Co-Op Buddy will also be an exact duplicate of the Mr. Blonde guards seen in the Air Force One and Crash Site missions.

Trivia[]

  • The main character Mr. Blonde only morphs into his Skedar Warrior form once, during the brief moment he kills Trent Easton in the ending cutscene of the Crash Site mission. This is also the first time the player sees a full view of the Skedar on-screen.
  • In comparison of his fellow conspirators, Mr. Blonde is by far the most intelligent and dangerous antagonist; unlike Trent Easton who has a dominant but cowardly personality and Cassandra De Vries who is power-hungry, he is more organized and takes his goals very seriously. This is supported as he is the one who ultimately kills and captures them, respectively.
  • As seen in his own mission, Mr. Blonde's skills in combat are surprisingly proficient - equal to that of Joanna Dark and Elvis. Like them, as a player, he can have any weapon of choice, though his default firearm is the Mauler. He also carries the Cloaking Device and (oddly) the BombSpy in this mission as well.
  • Mr. Blonde's superior is most likely the Skedar King itself, as it is implied in-game that he is the leader of the Skedar faction that invaded the Earth and therefore second-in-command of his entire race; He calls the rest of the members "My team" during his meeting with Cassandra and Trent in G5 Building: Reconnaissance, and is even shown to be troubled that they themselves would have to bring the AI Dr. Caroll into the core of the Cetan Ship as he claims it will endanger them. His own model of his true form is also much larger than normal - about the size of the King.
  • As Mr. Blonde is in fact a Skedar, whose alien race is well known to be hostile, he strongly dislikes disrespect. In the ending cutscene of dataDyne Central: Extraction, after Joanna escapes from Cassandra's failed attempt to stop her and Mr. Blonde warns dataDyne's CEO to immediately retrieve the sapient back, as it is important, she answers with a sassy "I know that!", which causes him to retaliate and grab her arms. This scene in the final game, however, was a toned down version of what was originally planned during development; in the pre-release version of the game, Mr. Blonde can be seen aggressively tackling her into a wall, but was changed due to it being too violent. Interestingly, his voice in the beta was completely different, having more of a gentleman's voice similar to that of a villain from the James Bond franchise.
  • The Hit and Run Co-Op Buddy is a good-alignment counterpart of Mr. Blonde.
  • Mr. Blonde's height is comparable to that of Jaws' seen in GoldenEye 007.
  • When a Mr. Blonde is shot and wounded or killed by gunfire, he bleeds orange blood. This is the same as seen in their actual Skedar Warrior forms.
  • Like Hit and Run, most Mr. Blondes attack by shooting quickly, dash away for cover, and then shoot again, providing more dangerous tactics than dataDyne and similar guards.
